11 Colours: Green

Colour is really really important in design. There are only 11 basic colour terms although there are MILLIONS of colours so it’s essential to spend some time looking at your colours and making sure that they create the right impression for your business. Here is the second instalment in the 11 colours series.

11 colours

Green is the most balanced colour – this is because they eye needs the least adjustment to see it so it is relaxing and restful, easy to look at and stabilising.

Obvious connotations are with eco-friendly businesses and businesses to do with growth – gardeners, business coaches and life coaches for example. However, green balances the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of a person which is great for creating peace and balance in emotions – reassuring, refreshing, healing, stabilising and harmonious – so if you deal with angry, stressed or unbalanced people then green could be a great fit for your business too!

Green also represents money – it can be about prosperity – wanting “stuff”, but can also be about being thrifty! It all depends on the shade that you use.

Green is great to use when people need to make a decision as it helps them to see the situation with clarity. I’m sure you can think of loads of opportunities to use green in your business to help with that!

It’s important to use green carefully, as with any colour the wrong shade can create the wrong impression. You may want to avoid expressing greed for example and too much calming green could look bland, boring and become draining – but if you use it correctly and pair it with the right colours then there’s no reason why this should happen.
